WEDMKE: A wedding show we love!

Have you ever been to a wedding show?We have. Plenty of them. For people planning a wedding, they’re great, offering exposure to a variety of different vendors all in one place. Savvy couples can nail down a lot of details at a show,  as well as gather ideas from pros who keep atop the latest trends and services. So why aren’t we at every show in town? The simple truth is that our work doesn’t play well at these events, which tend to be extremely loud and congested. Attendees miss the emotional audio and music, which are integral to the storytelling of our films. And the last thing we want to do is blast more sound an attempt to catch someone’s attention, further adding to the roar. But when we heard about MKEWED at Turner Hall Ballroom, we were intrigued. The event was to showcase local and unique vendors. Hey, Sweet Pea fits that bill!We also know that couples who care about supporting local artisans (like us!) are exactly the kind of people we love to film.  They value the hard work, dedication and attention that goes into a handmade piece created specifically for them. We’re so glad we signed up. Here’s what we think attendees liked about the show:

  • Vendors that rock: We didn’t get a chance to meet every vendor at the event, but those we already know and the ones we did meet are excellent. Couples can have faith that they’re getting the best of MKE here. (See the full list here.)
  • Music that rocks: The live music was fantastic, and ranged from singer songwriters to rockin’ blues.
  • A venue that rocks: Turner Hall is quintessential Milwaukee, and seeing patrons walking around with Pabst Tall Boys, or blood Marys and mimosas reminded us of the last concert we went to there.

Why did we love WEDMKE, despite the raucus buzz?Because it drew exactly the kind of people we connect with: people who clearly want to see the best of local Milwaukee. And, they actually stopped by our booth, watched films and chatted about their plans and dreams. We love Milwaukee, local artisans, and restaurants, and businesses. And we’re glad we’ve found a wedding show that makes sense for us, too.Cheers,CindyVendors in this video:  Turner Hall Ballroom Weddings | Milwaukee Airwaves | Studio 29 Photography | Milwaukee Flower Company | Relics {Vintage Rentals} |  Coquie Paperie & Gifts | evenement | Jadon Good Photography | Bay View PrintingCaricatures & Comedy by Bill | Gigi’s Cupcakes of WauwatosaKyle Feerick |

WEDMKE: Turner Hall Ballroom packed with unique, local vendors

Weddings are an important matter. And the vendors you surround yourself with on that very important day can matter a lot.  They can help you create a day that fits your style, that meets your budget and graciously caters to your guests.Ever since we launched Sweet Pea, we’ve met hundreds of companies and people who work in the wedding world. The vast majority of them care deeply about their clients and want to help them in any way they can. We love working with those vendors: the people who not only guide couples in the many questions that arise when planning a wedding, but those that offer professionalism, reliability as well as creativity. So when Anne Birkinbine of Turner Hall Weddings and Ramsey Renno of Milwaukee Airwaves announced WEDMKE — a wedding show focused on showcasing the best and unique wedding pros in the Milwaukee area — we knew we had to be a part of it.We’re not huge fans of weddings shows. The noise and chaos aren’t ideal to showcase our work. But the focus on local and unique for WEDMKE really intrigued us, and we’re so glad we participated! We met dozens of couples who seemed to be interested in showcasing the best of what Milwaukee has to offer, and that’s exactly what we love, too.We hope you enjoy the first of two videos we produced talking to WEDMKE vendors. Round II comes tomorrow, when we’ll also talk a little bit more about wedding shows.Cheers,CindyTurner Hall Ballroom Weddings | Milwaukee Airwaves | Studio 29 Photography | Milwaukee Flower Company |  Caricatures & Comedy by Bill | Favor Bay | Pritzlaff Events | Tactile Craftworks | Bartolotta Catering | Downtown Kitchen | Kyle Feerick | Bluewater Kings Band | The Vitrolum Republic | We, Unity Candle

A fantastical Rustic Manor Wisconsin wedding

This particular Wisconsin wedding feast was in full swing at Rustic Manor 1848 with guests chatting and laughing, glasses clinking and silverware clattering on pretty china plates.A crowd had gathered for “Fancy Fake Wedding,” a unique and new kind of bridal that gave attendees a chance to experience a ceremony and reception at the new barn venue, as well as see the best and brightest ideas from collaborating vendors, including Sweet Pea Cinema, a premiere wedding videographer.

Announcing a Wisconsin wedding Same Day Edit

And as guests enjoyed Zilli Hospitality Group’s expertly crafted menu along with signature cocktails (Rustic Manor Old Fashioned, anyone?), DJ extraordinaire Matt Collins from A Personal Touch made the announcement.”And now we’re going to see a film produced from today’s event.”The room fell silent, and every face turned toward the big screen.Music filled the air and images of a gorgeous “bride” and handsome “groom” as well as stunning flowers, unique and elegant decor, food, treats and more glimmered brightly.Guests were amazed and thunderous applause followed the credits. Our Same Day Edit film was a showstopper, highlighting the best moments of a day that had seen bride and groom prep, emotional card-readings, a fun and meaningful ceremony performed by Brad Schnell of I Do, who re-tooled a script from one of his favorite events from last year.We know the power and impact of a Same Day Edit, having produced several. A SDE amazes and entertains guests, giving your wedding another element that will make it truly memorable. We couldn’t have produced such a gorgeous film without the help of the amazing pros behind the entire Fancy Fake Wedding, so please check them out if you like what you see in the film!Location: Rustic Manor 1848Caterer: Zilli Hospitality GroupBakery: Sweet Tooth BakeryPhotography: East Elm PhotographyVideography: Sweet Pea CinemaRentals & Decor: Vintique RentalsCover It With ClassChina Rentals: Plates Etc.Floral: Jane Kelly Floral Invitations: Coqui Paperie & Gifts BoutiqueBridal Gown: Aeva Wedding & PartyHair Style: C’est la Vie SalonMakeup: Lake Country Skin SpaWedding Favors: Oro di OlivaLocal Planning Resource: WI Bride MagazineLocal Planning Resource: Milwaukee Magazine – Wedding EditionLocal Planning Resource: Married In MilwaukeeLocal Planning Resource: Premiere BrideRehearsal Dinner Location: Wine Maniacs

Happy Pier Wisconsin wedding | You have shown me what love is

When it’s cold and rainy, it’s best to think back to a warm and happy moment. This bleak fall morning has been completely warmed and cheered by memories of Mirella and Kyle, who gathered  with family and friends to say their vows at St. Rita’s Catholic Church and dance the night away at Pier Wisconsin earlier this month.Their wedding was our last of the season, which is always bittersweet. The bitter edge hits because time with our couples and their remarkable celebrations are coming to an end for the year. Sweet because the fall is when editing becomes our main focus, and with principal shooting ended, nothing distracts us from luxuriating in the hours and hours of footage we’ve captured over the sunny summer. When the leaves start to turn, that’s when amazing films start to blossom.Ending the season with Mirella and Kyle was icing on the cake! The words that come to mind when describing these newlyweds are: genuine, generous, caring and happy. Their focus on family and close friends for all aspects of their wedding was wonderful to see and perhaps nothing showed this devotion more than the many portrait sessions with marvelous photographer Jen Sexton. Grandparents, cousins, aunties and uncles, brothers and sisters, moms and dads gathered to smile, hug and kiss, all wishing to bestow a bit of good luck on the bride and groom. After the inspiring wedding Mass led by Father Rich Young, close family members were treated to a private luncheon at the beautiful DeRango home in Racine.  Mom Silvana and dad Benny had outdone themselves with abundant treats and flowing drinks. The party before the party had begun! In the early evening, cocktails and antipasti greeted guests as they arrived at Pier Wisconsin’s Pilot House. We’ll never grow tired of that room’s gorgeous view of Milwaukee’s skyline, the lake and the city’s southern shoreline. No one will soon forget toasts made by brother Dominic, sisters Melissa and Lindsey and best man Will. Nor will anyone forget the fun and colorful entrance the bridal party made with flashing light-up wands. Or Mirella and Kyle’s supremely romantic first dance. Or the beautiful multi-tiered cake. Or the truly amazing post-dinner sweets that made everyone’s mouth water.Indeed, it was a magical memorable day and evening. We hope you enjoy today’s Sneak Peek to what will be a glorious full-length film in the months to come. It’s often difficult to choose what to feature in a Sneak Peek, particularly when all the footage sparkles and the ceremony and toasts are chock full of meaningful words. But not for this short film. We established the incredible love Mirella and Kyle have for each other by sharing just a few snippets from notes each of them wrote to the other on their wedding day. So profound. So sweet. So adoring. We just kept coming back to them again and again as we cataloged their footage.Congrats to the newlyweds!Vendors who helped make this day special (more to come as details arrive):St. Rita’s Catholic ChurchPier Wisconsin: The Bartolotta Catering Co.Jen Sexton: Photographer | Amelishan Bridal

Downtown Milwaukee Wedding Film: Barb + Tom | God was hinting at me

I don’t think you can find another couple as equally devoted to each other and their faith as Barbara and Tom.Instead of a first look, these two had a “first Mass.” On the morning of their wedding, Tom picked up Barbara, and they drove to Old St. Mary Church in downtown Milwaukee for the 7 a.m. service. They couldn’t think of a better way to start their wedding day, and as they walked through the doors of that stately church, the bells in the tower began to peel as if to say: Today is their day! These two had circled around each other for years, attending young adult Catholic functions in the Milwaukee area. But it wasn’t until a short while ago, that Tom, who is an accomplished musician and vocalist, began to notice Barb anew at his weekly musical devotions. He said it so eloquently at their reception: That he began to feel a pull toward Barbara at those music-filled weekly services. And on the rare occasions when Barb didn’t attend, Tom said he felt a void. And he knew that God was pointing him in a specific direction. To Barbara.

My direction was always getting pulled in her direction. And I like to think that it was God’s subtle way of saying, “This is someone I want you to pay attention to.”

The wedding mass at Our Lady of Divine Providence, St. Casimir, in Milwaukee’s Riverwest area was presided over by Fr. Luke Strand, a dear friend to the couple and leader, like Tom, in Arise, a local parish mission organization. Music was plentiful, as no doubt a Mass scripted by Tom would be.The reception at Joey Buona’s, with it’s giant windows, filled with a beautiful setting sun as family and friends gathered close. Several bridal party members stepped up to the microphone to talk about the qualities that make Barbara and Tom such a great couple: devotion to the Lord, devotion to each other, and deep care for family, friends and the world around them.We loved producing this wedding film, and wish these two an incredible life together!Cheers,Cindy
